Hi friend!

My name is Kayla and I started this little blog years ago when I was teaching in an elementary self-contained setting and wanted to connect with other special educators. Special Education can often be an isolating little island within your school, and I am here to help you feel a little less “alone”!

My goal here at My Special Learners is to bring teachers and parents engaging resources, tips, & tricks to utilize inside & outside of the classroom!

I graduated in 2010 from Ohio University with a bachelor’s degree as an Intervention Specialist specializing in moderate to intensive needs. Following graduation, I moved to Raleigh, North Carolina where I taught for 2 years in a K-2 year round autism classroom.

After a few years down south, I was ready to come back home to Ohio. I got a job in Northeast Ohio in a K-5 Moderate to Intensive Needs classroom working with children with multiple disabilities. I spent 6 years teaching in this setting, and then made the decision to make a change in Spring of 2018. I decided to leave the “traditional” classroom and work as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) with children with autism. Working as an RBT I worked alongside a BCBA implementing programs and working on skills ranging from academic to behavior in nature, all while doing so in their home environment.

Currently, I am a full time stay at home mom and develop/create resources for My Special Learners. I am so glad you stumbled upon my little corner of the internet!
